TOP SETTING WADING ROD

Wading rods securely position a current meter to any depth while the operator is wading in a stream. The depth of the measurement can be adjusted depending on water depth at a specific location. The top setting wading rod contains graduated stainless steel and aluminum rods, joined by an aluminum handle.

The current meter and tail fins attach to the rod’s base. After placing the wading rod in a stream and reading the water depth, a vernier on the rod’s handle permits automatic setting at this chosen depth. The current meter can be positioned at 0.6 of the water depth, 0.4 up from the bottom.

This complies with the standard 0.6 method of taking velocity measurements. By doubling water depth and using the results, the meter is positioned at 0.2 of the water depth, 0.8 up from the bottom. By positioning the rod to the numbers corresponding to 1/2 the water depth, the meter is placed at 0.8 of the water depth 0.2 up from the bottom. The latter two positions correspond to the 0.2 0.8 method for taking velocity measurements.
